These are my opinions and I am not suggesting what others do is wrong, just sharing my views after what I’ve read, seen and experienced.
I’ve been on Elvanse to alleviate the ADHD downfalls and it’s been an interesting week.
Feedback from those who know me well and have seen me this week have said:
“You appear so much more together and happier” and they would be right. I do feel that way!
I have not woken with the ever familiar intense feeling of impending doom that I have had all my life and I’m actually tearful at the realisation of this.
anyway, enough feeling sorry for myself and hurrah for prescribed class B drugs!
I am not saying that being ADHD is all negative because it has its ups and it’s downs but for me, personally, I was struggling immensely and my quality of life (now that I know what the other side is like) was not great. The way I was without these little chemical wonders was not an existence that made life easy for me or those around me Nor a life I want to go back to.
I am not a fan of medicating to make life easier for others but for me this has been a complete game changer. I am glad I wasn’t medicated as a child because I have read accounts of those who were and they report how it messed with their mind. I suspect this is because neurodiverse minds have plasticity. This means the brain is able to adapt itself to the environment. This may mean that a child who is medicated, the brain won’t be naturally exposed and probably less able to adapt. Without those medications their brains may be stuck in a schema/cycle that is out of date and not accustomed to the requirements of the present putting them at a disadvantage.
I guess my belief is that brains should be allowed to grow and develop to the full and then you can assess and medicate as necessary. I say this because surely it’s better to establish what each persons innate mature default settings are so that a base line can be compared against with each medication or treatment outcome.
