is there a need for labels?
Photograph taken by Charles Wildgoose.
Correct labels are important and wrong labels damaging. Labels enable us to describe the world around us and share a common understanding. I see labels as useful; such as table, chair, window. I can use these labels to explain or direct someone. The label can be in any form, pictorial or written, as long as all involved with its use know what the label represents and what it is associated with.
The problem with labels is when someone plants a seed that grows, spreads and creates an attachment to that label that is false, ill-informed and damaging. An example of this would be how some are invited to see homosexuality as wrong. This is not the fault of the label but the association that has been connected to it.
