Here is a list of things I would have benefited from fully understanding sooner as an Autistic human.
Don't take life too seriously because no one gets out alive,
Compare yourself only with who you were yesterday (or an hour ago if that's more effective for you),
You don't need to justify your existence to anyone,
life isn't supposed to be easy and life certainly owes no one/no creature anything,
In life, change is inevitable and only you can prepare for that...so always have a plan B because plan A isn't always guaranteed,
Being in a relationship and having children is not an expectation you have to own,
Being single is perfectly valid - this is your life,
Learn to feel comfortable in your own skin and to laugh at yourself because it'll make life so much more enjoyable,
not everyone will like you, just like you won't like everyone - and that's ok,
When it feels like life is too hard - remember this: this won't last forever - you're mind might convince you it is but it is not- the dark days and depression do not last forever.
Autism is not a disorder - it's a neurological difference that allows me access to all the available data that the Allistic folks don't get access to.
Autistic people do not lack social skills, we just have different social skills.
Autistic people do not need fixing, but we do need accepting as equals,
Always listen to your gut feeling, your body will tell what's best for you so please learn to listen to it - those genetic instincts have been around since human kind began - if it doesn't feel right then it probably isn't.
