It may not come as a surprise to learn that many neurodivergent humans, prior to knowing their neurological identity, used alcohol and drugs as a coping mechanism in reducing the emotional distress caused by PNT society.
for me personally, I like to have a taste of some alcoholic drinks but I can’t have too much because I metabolise alcohol so slowly, in the same way as medications, so I ‘feel’ the effects immediately. With alcohol I don’t like feeling the loss of control it brings so I just satisfy the taste and when the effects get ‘too much’ I stop. Regarding medications - historically clinicians have told me it’s the placebo effect when for me this isn't the case - I genuinely, as do many Autistics, sense the micro changes that occur when medications are taken. I suspect the clinician's training & Neuro -wiring (if PNT & not ND) doesn’t account for this phenomenon.
